FRIDLEY, SCHMELZER, WENDLAND, HAGERSTROM, NACKE

WATERLOO — Ralph P. Fridley, 79, of Waterloo, died Sunday Feb. 26, 2006. He was born June 1, 1926, in Sumner, son of Paul E and Susan Schmelzer Fridley.

He married Betty R. Wendland on July 25, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye. Mr. Fridley was a 1943 graduate of Sumner High School and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He worked in the canning department for 33 years at Rath Packing Co, retiring in 1980. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and was a volunteer at the Cedar Valley Food Bank for 22 years. He received the Governor's Award for Volunteering in 1990.

Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Patricia A. (Don) Hagerstrom of Waterloo; a granddaughter, Erin Hagerstrom of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Robert (Helen) Fridley of Independence.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Eileen Nacke.

Services: 10 am. Wednesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Keams, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AM VETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
