LA PORTE CITY — Glen R. Foss Jr., 93, of La Porte City, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes. He was born Feb. 21, 1920, in La Porte City, the son of Glen and Margret Schmit Foss Sr. He graduated from La Porte City High School. He married Villanovia “Novie” Klein on Feb. 17, 1942, at Eagle Center Catholic Church. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elks Club and Moose Lodge.

He started farming in 1942 in Hudson and La Porte City and was still farming. He worked at Rath Packing Co. for eight years cooking canned ham. He also hauled peas for three years.

He loved dancing, working with his lawn and flowers, farming, raising his cattle he called “Charlie” and delivering compressors for Compressed Air. You always knew him by his striped bib overhauls and caps. Many times he was called “Pokey Pete.”

Survived include his wife Novie of La Porte City; one son, Rick Foss of La Porte City; one daughter, Marlys (Emery) Kuhn of La Porte City; one daughter-in-law, Lesa Foss of La Porte City; nine grandchildren: Kim (Bart) Frush, Kenny Kuhn, Karla (Randy) Kiler, Billy Foss, Glen (Nikki) Foss III, Tina (Rick) Masterson, Kelly (Kendra) Foss, Dusty and SeHee Foss; 13 great-grandchildren: Josh, Ashley and Brittany Frush, Tiffany, Brenden and Emily Kuhn, Austin, Alex and Anthony Kiler, Meghan and Melanie Foss and Ryan and Trevor Masterson; two stepgrandchildren, Luke and Charity; two sisters, Margaret Purdy of La Porte City and Verna May Dengler of Cedar Falls; and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Foss of La Porte City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert “Bob” Foss; and two brothers, Harold and Elwin Foss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the West View Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
