Services for John C. Kirlin, 83, of 157 Lovejoy Ave. will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward's Catholic Church with burial in Mout Olivet Cemetery.

Mr. Kirlin died Monday night in the emergency room at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 14, 1905, in Modale, son of Frank C. and Mary Lynch Kirlin. He married Hazel R. Vantuyl on June 8, 1940, in Mondamine.

He farmed south of Hudson for many years. While farming he won the Master's Corn Grower Award for Black Hawk County, having the highest corn yields in 1956 and in 1963. He was district winner in soil conservation in 1953 and 1977.

Survivors include his wife; four sons: John J. of Nappa, Calif., Thomas of Washington D.C., Stephen of Detroit, Mich., and Dr. Philip C. of E. Lansing, Mich.; a daughter. Mrs. Jean Weidemann of Arlington, Va.; seven granddaughters; and two brothers, George of Modale and Edward of Loveland, Colo.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances; and three brothers: Herbert, Edmund and Dr. Lawrence.

A parish rosary will be at 7 and Inter-City Community Prayer Group Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Oppold Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Columbus High School.
