WATERLOO, IOWA -- Betty Jean Barman, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, April 14, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born May 14, 1922, in Waterloo, daughter of Basil and Grace Simmons Smith. She attended Waterloo East High. She married James G. Barman on Nov. 15, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. He preceded her in death January 7, 2005.

Betty is survived by two sons, James (Susanne) of La Porte City and Richard D. of Dallas; four daughters: Sharon (David) Powell of La Porte City, Gail A. Ginther of Des Moines, Wash., Cathy (William) Burke of Hudson and Janice J. Barman of Loveland, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Basil "Dale" (Betty) Smith of Hudson and Darrell (Sharon) Smith of Colesburg.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry B.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
