WATERLOO, IOWA - James G. Barman, 84, of La Porte City, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, January 7, at the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center of cancer.

He was born November 17, 1920, in Mason City, son of Ralph and Cora O'Brink Barman. He married Betty Jean Smith on November 15, 1941, in Lancaster, Missouri.

Mr. Barman worked as a ham boner at Rath Packing Co. for 42 years, retiring in 1981. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of La Porte City; two sons, Jim R. (Susanne) of La Porte City and Richard D. of Dallas; four daughters, Sharon K. (David) Powell of La Porte City, Gail A. Ginther of Seattle, Cathy J. (William) Burke of Hudson and Janice J Barman of Loveland, Colorado; a sister, Betty Ellsworth of Washburn; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry B.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in the Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and for an hour before the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the La Porte City Nursing and Rehab Center.
