WATERLOO — Bernice K. Heinick, 86, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Waterloo and Jesup, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Sun Coast Hospice at Woodside, Pinellas Park, Fla.

She was born March 24, 1926, in Jesup, daughter of Joseph and Josephine Amfahr Schuler. She married John Charles Heinick on Aug. 1, 1959, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup. He died in 2006.

Mrs. Heinick graduated from high school in Jesup in 1944, then went to work at Rath Packing Co. She worked many years in the Waterloo City Clerk’s Office, retiring in 1987. She was a former member of St. Athanasius Church, Jesup, where she played the organ, and later was a member of St. John Vianney Church, St. Pete Beach, Fla.

Survived by a daughter, Vicki (Bruce) Thuesen of Jesup; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews, including Kenneth and Nancy Schuler of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter; two brothers, Earl and LeRoy Schuler; and a sister, Anna M. Dutton.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in the church cemetery. White Funeral Home, Jesup, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to St. Athanasius Church, Jesup, and to the Sun Coast Hospice in Florida.

Bernice has spent the last four years at Arbor Oaks assisted living in St. Petersburg. It was a wonderful facility where she was kept very comfortable, where she met many friends and enjoyed daily bingo. For Ken and Nancy Schuler, her nephew and niece, it is a pleasure to have many memories of spending time with her the past nine years as they also wintered in Florida.
