ADEN MATTERN

Aden Mattern, 83, former Waterloo carpenter, died Thursday of complications incident to advanced age in the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. J. Harris, of Brooklyn, Michigan.

Born Nov. 25, 1867, at West Unity, Ohio, Mr. Mattern was a son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Mattern. He married in August of 1893 Miss Ida Axtell at Blue Rapids, Kansas.

He was employed as carpenter here for many years. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

During the past 25 years Mr. Mattern resided with his daughter, Mrs. Harris, part of the time at Deep River, Iowa, and later in Michigan.

Surviving Mr. Mattern besides the daughter with whom he made his home is another daughter, Mrs. Henry Walter, of San Lorenzo. Cal., as well as eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The body will arrive Saturday morning at Kearns Garden Chapel where funeral arrangements are being made.

At the time of his wife's death they were living in Austin, Minnesota. She died at St. Olaf Hospital, Austin, June 30, 1921, as result of injuries after she was struck by an automobile.
