MRS. A. W. MATTERN

Mrs. Ida A. Mattern. age 54. wife of A. W. Mattern, Austin, Minnesota, died at 1:55 p. m. yesterday in St. Olaf's Hospital, Austin, as result of injuries sustained a week ago when she was struck by an automobile.

Surviving are the husband, two daughters, Mrs. H. M. Walters and Mrs. T. J. Harris, both of Austin, three grandsons, three brothers and three sisters.

The deceased and her family resided in Waterloo for a number of years and the body will be brought here for burial. Services are to be at Westminster Presbyterian Church Sunday at 4 p. m., with Dr. A. C. Preston, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in Elmwood.

Clot From Injured Tissues The Cause

Mrs. A. W. Mattern who was injured when she was struck by an automobile Friday afternoon, died at the hospital of her injuries. An autopsy held last night by Dr. P. A. Lonumen indicated that her death was due to pulmonary embolism; probably caused by a blood clot from the injured tissues getting into the blood vessels.

Until yesterday noon Mrs. Mattern's condition had steadily improved and her husband and daughters hoped for an early recovery when death came suddenly.

Ida Axtell was born at Mechanicsville, Iowa to Jesse & Emeline (Shangle) Axtell on September 19, 1866. She married Aden Wilber Mattern on August 24, 1893 in Blue Rapids, Kansas. With her husband and two children she came to Mower County two years ago and has lived on the Brookholm farm 1½ miles east of Austin since last November. The family came to Mower County from Adrian Michigan. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and two daughters; Mrs. (Mildred) H. M. Walters of Dexter and Mrs. (Ruth Irene) T. J. Harris who resides east of this city.

Mrs. Mattern was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church of Austin.

Funeral services will be held at the Jordan Undertaking Parlors tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. and the body will be taken to Waterloo, Iowa the former home of Mrs. Mattern.
