George Amelung was born January 20, 1917 in Butternut, Wisconsin, the son of Reinhold and Kathryn (Meyer) Amelung. He died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, at 86 years of age.

He married Jo Ann Schreoder on July 7, 1972 in Memphis, Tennessee. George served with the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a Field Supervisor for Chromium Mining and Smelting Corporation in Memphis, Tennessee.

George is survived by his wife, Jo Ann, of Waterloo; a son, Harold Amelung of Apache Junction, Arizona; a daughter, Sharon Amelung Ramsey of Batesville, Arkansas; three step-daughters, Linda Craddock Schult of El Chajon, California, Janet Craddock Peterson of Atlanta, Georgia and Cathy Craddock Chavez of El Paso, Texas; five grandchildren, Matthew Ramsey, Lisa and Lori Schult, and Valerie and Paul Chavez, and a sister, Irma Amelung Dandeneau of Ashland, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son, Robert Craddock; two brothers, Ed and Florian Amelung, and a sister, Helen Schneider.

Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo or Nazareth Lutheran Church.
