Miriam Nette Heerman Lamb

Miriam N. Lamb of 5005 Broadview Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at St. Luke’s Living Center West. She was 93 years old. Born March 15, 1919, in Peoria, Ill., and married on Oct. 27, 1933, to Henry Hoyt Lamb. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Lamb Yarrington of Cedar Rapids; a son, Robert G. Lamb and his wife Katharine of Davenport; granddaughters Suzanne Miriam Yarrington Coleman (Michael) of Cedar Rapids and Sarah Katharine Lamb Wietecki (Dave) of Eagan, Minn.; and great-grandchildren Sarah Coleman, Marcus Coleman, Adelyn Wietecki and Makenna Wietecki.

Miriam was also preceded in death by a sister, Venetia Heerman Neerman (James); brothers Venn Heerman and George Heerman; her parents, George G. Heerman and Amelia Burke Heerman; and her son-in-law, Donald W. Yarrington.

Miriam and her husband raised their family in La Porte City. After the death of her husband, she moved to Godfrey, Ill., Decatur, Ill., and Cedar Rapids with her daughters’ family.

During her lifetime Miriam participated in many activities. She was a Sunday school teacher, a soloist in the church choir, a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout leader. She loved animals and rescued many dogs and was a horse owner and rider.

Miriam moved to Cedar Rapids in 1983. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Elmcrest Country Club, Cedar Rapids Woman’s Club and the Cedar Rapids Welcome Wagon. She spent much of her time bowling, golfing and playing bridge. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and attended the games for many years.

Miriam was a member of several genealogical organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Woman’s Descendants of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Daughters of the Court of Honor, Daughter of American Colonists, National Society of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century and Daughters of Colonial Wars. She was a member of Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star.

Both the viewing and funeral will take place at Cedar Memorial West Side Chapel, 1221 1st Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, on Saturday, Jan. 12. The visitation will begin at 1 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. funeral. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery, La Porte City.
