John E. Itzen, 91, of Cedar Falls, died Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. He was born July 8, 1917 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of John E. and Gertrude (Kruger) Itzen.

John married Iva Dean Heronimus on August 21, 1946 in Holland, Iowa. John served with the U.S. Army during WW II and was a pipe fitter at the University of Northern Iowa for twenty-two years. He was a member of Orchard Hill Church and Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. John was also a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Dean, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Beverly J. (John) Landa, of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Matthew Landa of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Megan (Nick) Bayer of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Cassie Landa of Edmond, Oklahoma.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Klass Itzen and a brother in infancy, and six sisters, Fannie Hasbrouck, Berdene Finke, Hermine Bergman, Louise Harken, Margaret Meyer, and a sister in infancy.

Services will be 1:30 pm Monday, December 15, 2008, at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Holland Cemetery in Holland, Iowa. Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be 4—7:00 pm Sunday, December 14, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Orchard Hill Church Cup of Cold Water Fund.
