WATERLOO — Stephen R. “Steve” Oettel, 63, of Waterloo, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born Oct. 31, 1949, in Waterloo, son of Fred John and Betty Wentworth Oettel. He married Mary L. Scoggin on June 5, 1981, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Oettel graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1967 and attended Hawkeye Tech for welding training. He was a cabinet maker at Bertch Cabinets, a former house parent for EPI and also drove a bus for the Regional Transit Authority.

Survived by his wife; four adopted grandchildren, Jackson and Lindy Lindquist and Emily and John Finney; his mother, Betty Retz of Raymond; two sisters, Linda (Dale) Crisp of Waterloo and Cathy Bloomquist (Wayne Billings) of Raymond; and a brother, Bruce (Debbie) Bloomquist of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his father; his grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo. Visitation will be for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home. A luncheon will take place after the services in the funeral home community room.
