In this city, Sept. 15, 1875, of diptheria, Gertrude, daughter of J.C. Gates, aged 6 years, 3 months and 29 days.

A brief week of sickness and for the third time in less than two years the pull of death is within this home. Gertie, the beautiful household pet, whose arms were bent to cling so lovingly around papa's neck is gone. The angels wanted her, the mother awaited her and so she went, and we...

Who sink within the arms of death
Ere yet the chilling wintry breath
Of sorrow o'er them blows

But weep for them who here remain
The mournful heritors of pain
Condemn'd to see each bright joy fade,
and mark grief's melancholy shade
flung o'er Hope's fairest rose.
