DUNKERTON — Phyllis J. Grady, 85, of Graettinger, formerly of Dunkerton, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at the Muse–Norris Inpatient Unit, Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

She was born Feb. 28, 1927, at home in Geneseo, daughter of Rodney Smith and Helen Pearl Merritt Speer*. She married Loren Grant Grady on June 19, 1949, in Dunkerton. He died July 12, 2000.

She graduated from high school in Dunkerton in 1944. She was a farm wife and mother, had worked at Rath Packing, Waterloo, before marriage and in later years worked as a teacher’s aide in the Dunkerton School System.

Survived by two sons, Michael (Nancy) of Moravia and Richard (Marge) of Dunkerton; two daughters, Cathy (Alan) McGregor of Charles City and Cheryl (Don) Harris of Graettinger; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marlys Sage of Madison, Wis., and Harriet Wheeler of Dunkerton; and a brother, Robert (Judy) Speer* of Dunkerton.

Preceded in death by a grandson; and two brothers, Darrel and Oliver E. "Ed" Spear*.

Services: will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Dunkerton United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
