ELK RUN HEIGHTS — Michael A. Nie, 55, of Elk Run Heights, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born March 2, 1957, in Waterloo, son of James F. and Agnes H. Plotz Nie. He married Teresa M. Russell on July 20, 1985, in Evansdale.

Mr. Nie graduated from Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville. He worked in the rough mill department at Bertch Cabinet for 28 years.

Survived by his wife; a son, Cole at home; a daughter, Morgan at home; his mother of Jesup; three sisters: Sharon (Darrell) Stortz of Independence, Deanna (George) Hanson of Andover, Kan., and Joan Nie of Des Moines; four brothers: Nicholas (Dolores) and Stephen (Denice), both of Jesup, James B. (Nancy) DeForest, Wis., and Kevin (Jody) of Cedar Rapids; and his mother-in-law, Geneva Russell.

Preceded in death by his father; and his father-in-law, James H. Russell.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, Waterloo, with a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mike enjoyed fishing, cutting wood, gardening and hunting. He also took an interest in working on his jeep with his son Cole.
