ASMUS, MORITZ, JENSEN, WHITSELL, WUNDER, TELLIN, SWANSON, MURRAY

August H. Asmus, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. He was born February 18, 1918 in Friend, Nebraska, the son of John & Ida (Moritz) Asmus.

He married Alice Jensen June 9, 1940 in Nebraska. She preceded him in death on February 27,1951. He married Pearl Whitesell October 24, 1951 in Waterloo. While living in Nebraska, August worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and also started farming. He moved to Plainfield, Iowa and then Cedar Falls, Iowa where he continued to farm for the rest of his life. August was past Treasurer and member of Twin Town Chorus, had served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank, was a choir member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was in the John Deere Collectors Club.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl, of Cedar Falls; his daughter, Toni (Eldon) Wunder, of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Emilie Wunder of Cedar Falls and Matthew (Charlotte) Asmus of Houston, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Camille, Celeste and August Asmus; three brothers, Paul Asmus of Webster City, Iowa, Ernest (Arlene) Asmus of Boise, Idaho and Karl (Jan) Asmus of Waverly, Iowa; one sister, Ruth Tellin of Clinton, Iowa; and one sister in law, Goldie Asmus, of Osceola, Iowa.

August was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife; one daughter, Mary Jean Asmus; one son, John LeRoy Asmus; two sisters, Marie Swanson and Margaret Murray; and one brother, John Asmus.

Services will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to service time at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church.
