Joseph W. F. Schneider, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. He was born September 24, 1915 near Tipton, Iowa, the son of William M. and Hazel R. (Whitmer) Schneider.

Joe attended grades 1—8 at White Pigeon Rural School. He graduated from Wilton, Iowa High School and in 1941 graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI).

He married Ethel Mae Nelson on August 29, 1942 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. In 2007 he and Ethel Mae celebrated sixty-five years of marriage. Joe worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for thirty-six years as a cost accountant. He then served as a tour guide there for twenty-five years, retiring at the age of 80. Joe became a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in 1941. He was a Sunday School teacher in the fifth and sixth grades for fifty years. Joe was member of the IMA for over fifty years and a lifetime member of the John Deere Supervisors Club.

Joe loved to travel with his family, visiting all of the states except for two. He enjoyed many community events, including plays, concerts, and recitals. Joe was proud of his family. He enjoyed life to its fullest and loved his church and the Lord very much.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mae, of Cedar Falls; a son, Wayne J. (Paula) Schneider, of Burlington, Vermont; two daughters, Jane (Orly) Friesen of Winnipeg, Canada and Joan Mitchell of Kalispell, Montana; and three grandchildren, Erik and Kevin Friesen, and Ashley Mitchell.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, March 21, 2008, at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 4—6:00 pm Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, and one hour before service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or Christian Crusaders.
