WATERLOO - James E. Schmitt, 71, formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at a nursing home in San Diego of natural causes.

He was born in Waterloo, son of Ralph and Dolorosa Saux Schmitt. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed as a teacher.

Survived by two sisters, Mary Edwards of Harrison, Ark., and Donna Maringer of San Diego; and a brother, Richard of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a sister, Betty Murray.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday in LaJolla, Calif., with burial in San Diego. Pacific Beach Mortuary, San Diego, is in charge of arrangements.
