Earl G. Hansen, 82, of Cedar Falls died Friday, May 20, 2005 at his home, surrounded and embraced by his family.

He was born July 27, 1922 in rural Dike, Iowa the son of Irenius & Helga Weltz Lindholm Hansen, one of nine children.

Earl married Freda May Howell May 9, 1946 in Cedar Falls. He was a proud WWII Naval veteran having enlisted in July 1942. While with the Navy, he attended Purdue University specializing in electronics. Earl served in the South Pacific for the duration of the war as an Aviation Electrician Mate with a reconnaissance photographic squadron. Earl retired from John Deere & Co. after 40 years and 6 months service. During his employment, he was a charter member of Local 838 serving as board member and department steward. At the time of Earl’s retirement he was a supervisor in the H building.

Survivors include his wife, Freda Hansen of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Earlene (Perry) King of Mantorville, Minnesota; two sons, Robin (Linda) Hansen and Bryan Hansen, both of Cedar Falls; grandchildren, Brenda King of California, Alex King of Alaska, Dustin Hansen of Alaska, Stacie (Travis) Bogan of Colorado, and Courtney Hansen of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Alan Earl Hansen; and his siblings, Vic Lindholm, Einer Lindholm, Art Hansen, Sonny Hansen, Sis Backerman, Stub Hansen, Irene Hansen and Paul Hansen.

Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery with military rites conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
