Janice Louise Hellenschmidt was born to Roger and Loraine Hellenschmidt on Nov. 1, 1946, at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa. She graduated from West Waterloo High School in 1964. She continued her education at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, and completed her English degree in 1968 at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind.

She sang with the Metropolitan Chorale in Waterloo, and various touring Luther College Choral groups. Jan married James Seller of Minneapolis in 1966.

She worked as a library researcher for Encyclopedia Britannica in Chicago and Minneapolis, as a market researcher, paralegal office manager, and between 1987 and 2000, as a bookkeeper for the Minnesota AIDS Project.

Jan joined the congregation of The Cathedral Church of St. Mark in 1978. She was a caring and compassionate person who supported and accepted many who required or asked for her help. She was particularly touched by those who were helped by the Minnesota AIDS Project.

Jan died on March 21, 2006, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital after a long illness. Our hearts are saddened by her long struggle.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Loraine in 1971.

She is survived by her father, Roger Hellenschmidt of Waterloo; brothers, Paul Hellenschmidt of Annandale, Minn., and Mark Hellenschmidt of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for her favorite charity. Contributions can be sent to the Janice L. Seller Memorial Fund, c/o First National Bank of the Lakes, 3100 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55408.

She will be interred at the Columbarium at The Cathedral Church of St. Mark, 519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, where a memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, at 10:30 a.m.
