WATERLOO — Olen “Red” Eugene Rhoads, 81, of Waterloo, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Mountain Grove, Mo., son of Oza and Nora See Rhoads. He married Florence “Ruth” Keeth in April 1952, at Christian Westminster Church. She died Dec. 12, 2011.

Mr. Rhoads served in the National Guard and then was employed with the City of Waterloo Street Department for 42 years.

Survived by four sons: Danny, Larry (Caren), Michael and Patrick Rhoads, all of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lavelle Alvero of New York City.

Preceded in death by a son, Randy; two brothers, Forest and Jerry Crawford; and four sisters: Ruby Campbell, Elna Cline, Zella Thompson and Patsy Crawford.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, with burial in Garden of Memories. Military rites conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Visitation an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Red will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed motorcycles and country music, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, AMVETS and VFW.
