WATERLOO — Earl E. Freshwater, 81, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at Samaritan Bethany Home, Rochester.

He was born Nov. 14, 1931, in Ottumwa, son of Harvey and Mary Mather Freshwater. He married Joyce Walensky on Feb. 17, 1956, in Waterloo.

Mr. Freshwater worked as a portrait photographer at National Studio, Lohne’s Photography, owned Earl’s Photography and purchased Lohne’s Photography in 1966. He taught portrait photography at Hawkeye Community College and opened Elle’s Color Photography in Rochester in 1987. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, was a member of Waterloo Kiwanis Club, and was president of Professional Photographers Association of Iowa in 1983.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Jeff (Tina) of Dike, Marty (Liz) of Waterloo and Rick (Dawn) of Rochester; two daughters, Kim (Mark) Aarsvold of Pine Island, Minn., and Lori Moeller of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Greg, Katlyn, Ben, Luke, Owen, Faith and Mallorie Freshwater, Elliott, Spencer and Sydni Moeller, and Marcus Aarsvold; two stepgrandchildren, Justin and Jill Aarsvold; two brothers, Donley (Theresa) of Columbia, S.C., and John (Kathy) of Overland Park, Kan.; and a sister, Betty (Bob) Boesen of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a nephew, Gregory Freshwater.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Iowa National Guard Military Honors.
