Kathryn B. "Kay" Kunz, 93, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, March 22, 2007 at Lakeview Landing from natural causes.

She was born December 27, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Thomas F. and Catherine Langan Burke.

She married Gordon E. Steve Kunz on January 18, 1941 in Des Moines. He died May 2, 1973. Mrs. Kunz graduated from Immaculate High School in Chicago and later attended DePaul University. She worked for Equitable of Iowa Life Insurance Company and the State of Iowa for several years and was later active in various church and community organizations. She was also very involved in the lives of her children and their families.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane M. (John) Solberg of Waterloo, and Sharon C. (John) Willenborg of West Columbia, South Carolina; one son, Thomas G. (Clarissa) Kunz of Waterloo; seven grandchildren: Jeff (Shelley) Duffy of Farmington, Minnesota, Kimberly (Don) Berthiaume of Andover, Minnesota, Kathryn (Bart) Andersen of Anoka, Minnesota, Eric Solberg of Roseville, Minnesota, Jason (Shannon) Solberg of Mason City, Andrew Kunz of Edinburgh Scotland, and Jenna Kunz of Waterloo; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Eileen Burke and Eva Mae Burke, and a brother Thomas Burke.

Memorial Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church with inurnment in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Public visitation 4-8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed toward St. Edward Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
