WATERLOO, IOWA - Lucian J. Fitzgerald, 97, of Ravenwood Nursing & Rahab Center, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.

He was born April 18, 1909, in Pocahontas County, son of Joseph James and Ida Leib Fitzgerald.

He married Virginia I. Foley on September 21, 1946 in St. Joseph Catholic Church Waterloo. Mr. Fitzgerald was employed with John Deere for 24 years retiring in 1971. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre with the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife of Ridgeway Place; a sister-in-law Bonnie Fitzgerald of Des Moines; nieces and nephews and a special family friend Betty Stiles of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by four brothers: Celestine, Virgil, Gerald, and Erwin Fitzgerald; and two sisters, Mercedes Scott and Geraldine Briggs.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Public visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 6:00 p.m. Rosary. Visitation also for one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or St. Edward Catholic Church.
