WATERLOO — Jane W. McMurchy, 87, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born July 25, 1925, in Bismarck, N.D., daughter of Grover and Mabel Riggs. She married Lloyd McMurchy on June 10, 1950. He died May 3, 1990.

Mrs. McMurchy earned a bachelor’s degree in music education from Drake University in 1947. She taught instrumental music in Dunlap and Allison Bristow school districts, then for 25 years in the Waterloo Community School District, retiring in 1990. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church; played the clarinet in the New Horizons Band and was a member of LMI.

Survived by a son, Craig of Waterloo; a daughter, Jean Menke of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Laura (Eric) Frost, Matthew Menke, and Elaine, Shannon and Ian McMurchy; two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Janey Belle Frost; and a sister, Lois Watts of Bismarck.

Preceded in death by a son-in-law, Vernon Menke; and a brother-in-law, Robert K. Watts.

Memorial services: 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

A memorial fund will be established.
