CEDAR FALLS — Darlene Kay Hilbert Wells, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes.

She was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Waterloo, daughter of Delbert Fred and Bessie Ann Kinney Austin. On June 9, 1956, she married Gary Allen Hilbert, and they later divorced. On July 19, 1990, she married Herb Wells in Portland, Ore.

Mrs. Wells graduated in 1956 from Waterloo East High School. She worked for many years at Sears Roebuck until 1981, when she went back to school at Hawkeye Institute of Technology, receiving her LPN in 1981 and RN in 1985. Her nursing career from 1981 to 2000 included Covenant Medical Center, jail nurse at the Washington County Jail in the Portland area and Black Hawk County Jail, Waterloo. She was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Survived by her husband; two sons, Barney (Jean) Hilbert of Waverly and Jeff (Kim) Hilbert of Waterloo; two stepgrandchildren, Jenna Newman and Sarah Richmond; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Riley Richmond, Isabella Nelson and Vernie Nelson IV.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Waverly Pet Rescue.
