"Gert" Beecher

M. Gertrude Beecher, 83, of Waterloo died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1923, in Lawler, Iowa, daughter of George C. and Mary Siglin Murray.

She married W. Louis Beecher on November 17, 1943 in New Hampton. Mrs. Beecher graduated from New Hampton High School and later attended University of Northern Iowa. Organizations: Covenant Medical Auxiliary Junior League PEO Chapter IU Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Guild Friends of the Center for the Arts. She and her husband were inducted into the Columbus Hall of Fame in 1990.

Survivived by her husband of 63 years; three sons: J. Michael Beecher (Donna) of West Des Moines, William L. Beecher (Desa) of Tacoma, WA., Thomas G. Beecher (Diane) of Chandler, AZ.; two daughters, Elizabeth Beecher Petersen (Robert) and Mary Beecher Petersen (Eric) both of Waterloo; nine grandchildren: Bobby and Katherine Petersen, Cal and Annie Petersen all of Waterloo, Meghan Beecher of Flagstaff, Arizona, Jennifer Drew of Seattle, Washington, Benjamin Beecher of Tacoma, Washington, Todd Ensz of Chicago, Illinois, Melanie Kimball of Coleman, S. Dakota; one great-grandchild Emma Murray Kimball; and two sisters Marilou Kroeger of Florida and Rose Donahue of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Don Murray.

Services: 11:30 am Wednesday at St. Edwards Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Oliviet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7 p.m. Vigil Service.
