CEDAR FALLS — Robert Bruce “Bob” Hawkins, 93, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Elizabeth E. Martin Center of Western Home Communities.

He was born April 8, 1919, in Sioux City, son of Luke and Ella Spencer Hawkins. He married Marion Hawk on June 20, 1946.

Mr. Hawkins graduated from Central High School, then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for 832 days. He worked on the railroad for Illinois Central for 40 years, retiring in 1979. He then worked for the city of Waterloo for 10 years on the election board. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Karen (Frank Makinster) Beckner of Cedar Falls; a son, Robert (Joyce) of Brookfield, Wis.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother; and four sisters.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service.
