Robert L. Lies, 82, of Evansdale died Wednesday Dec. 19, 2007 at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Center of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Jesup the son of Harry and Mary Andersen Lies. He married Viola Ackerman on Feb. 14, 1947 in Dubuque.

Mr. Lies was employed with Rath Packing Company for 43 years retiring in 1985. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of Evansdale; a son Donald (Cameon) of Waterloo; a daughter Diana (Denny) Mingus of Waterloo; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Emily (Merle) Hildebrand of Cedar Falls, and Mary Penry of Evansdale; a brother Ray (Betty) Lies of Cedaredge, CO.

Preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Donald, Dick, and Louis Lies; two sisters, Patty Lies and Lucille Schnell; and a grandson Scott Lies.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church Waterloo with burial in St. Athanasius Cemetery Jesup. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by the Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. where there will be a 7 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary. Visitation also one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established at a later date.
