HUGHES, GODDEN, ORR, JAMES, STEPHENSON, KERBY

Maxwell V. Hughes, 92, of Waterloo died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born July 5, 1915 in Lebanon Kansas, son of Barney V. and Hazel F. Godden Hughes.

He married Maxine C. Orr October 9, 1943, in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Hughes graduated from Waterloo West High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in business.

He was a WWII veteran serving in the U. S. Army. Maxwell owned and operated Superior Welding Supply.

Survivors include his wife; three sons: Mike (Linda) Hughes of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark Hughes and Marty (Deanna) Hughes all of Waterloo; three daughters: Mary (Rick) James of Galesburg, IL, Martha (Jim) Stephenson of Sioux City, and Melissa (Wayne) Kerby of Richmond, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren: Lori Bruner, Matt Hughes, Marc Hughes, Lisa Hughes, Jon James, Josh James, Patrick James, Zach James, Jennifer Clayton, Nick Stephenson, Bridget Stephenson, Jacob Stephenson and Seaton Kerby; seven great-grandchildren: Alex and Alyssa Bruner, Jack, Max, and Caden Hughes, Hank Hughes and Cameron Clayton.

He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Lloyd Elliott.

Public visitation will be from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Private family memorial services will be held.

Memorials may be directed to the donors local charity of their choice.
