Marilyn J. Baseler Melendy Benfield, 67, of Homosassa, FL, formerly of Waterloo, IA, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in Florida of natural causes.

She was born August 29, 1941, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Lyle N. and Elizabeth M. Faber Baseler.

She married James A. Melendy on Dec. 3, 1960, in Waterloo. He died April 19, 2002. She married Raymond R. Benfield on January 14, 2005, in Homosassa, FL.

Marilyn was a graduate of West High School and was employed at Nestle Foods.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond R., of Homosassa, FL; a son, Michael J. (Laura) Melendy of Omaha, NE; a daughter, Sonja J. (Kevin) Doss of Lake In The Hills, IL; four grandchildren: Ben and Nick Doss, Joshua and Madison Melendy; two sisters, Angene (Joe) Cronin of Waterloo and Kathryn Kell of Texas; three nephews and numerous friends.

Preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Melendy, and a son, Gale J. Melendy.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Public visitation from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association or Mother's Against Drunk Driving.
