Roger Redfearn, 80, of Evansdale died Sunday February 15, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 22, 1928 in Grundy County, son of Roy and Tena Abels Redfearn.

He married Dorothy Draper and they were later divorced. He married Pat ONeil and she preceded him in death. He married Sheridan Bodecker December 30, 1988 in Evansdale.

Roger graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1945 and served in the US Navy from 1945 1947 and also from 1956 until his retirement from the service in 1972. He was then employed with the US Postal Service in 1972 retiring in 1989. He was past state commander of the Amvets from 1982-1983. He was a lifteime member of the Amvets and also the VFW.

Survivors include his wife; four sons: Jay of Hudson, Kelly (Chris) of Louisville, KY, Troy of Antioch, CA, and Tim of HopeWell Junction, NY; two step-daughters Devy (Dean) Torrance of Oakley CA and Jolene (Dennis) Downs of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister Darlene Wrage of Reinbeck and his mother-in-law Rose Holton of Evansdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Sheridan Bill Wrage.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway with entombment in Garden of Memories Mausoleum where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and the Junior ROTC of Waterloo. Public visitation will be from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where there will be a 7:00 p.m. public Masonic service. Visitation also for an hour before services on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be redistributed to Rogers organizations. Roger was a member of numerous organizations including the Fleet Reserve Loyal Order of Moose Scottish Rite of Free Masonry SJ USA Fraternal Order of Eagles ElKahir Shrine Black Hawk County Veterans Affairs the Cucumber Club National Assoc. of Letter Carriers American Legion and 40 and 8. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels RSVP Lifeline through Covenant Medical Center and the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
