Cleona "Cleo" Phyllis Bravener Terwedo Sonday, 93, died Thursday, February 12 at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center.

She was born January 23, 1916, in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Alice Johnson Bravener.

She married Earl William Terwedo on February 3, 1939, in Waterloo, Iowa. He died on June 23, 1951. She married Herbert J. Sonday on April 27, 1957 in Waterloo. He died May 18 1990.

She was a member for over 25 years of the Gopheretts, a volunteer group that went every Wednesday during the fall and winter to the group homes in Waterloo to sew for the residents. She is survived by three daughters: Rose Marie Terwedo Halloran (fiance: Larry Dahlenburg) of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, and Betty Jean Terwedo Althaus of Waterloo, and Mary Sonday (Major Davis) of Plano, Texas; a son, Robert Sonday of Waterloo; five granddaughters: Lori Ann Johnson of Lucan, Minnesota, Jennifer (Ron) Frank of Cedar Rapids, Amy Neisen of Marshalltown, and Melanie and Holly Davis of Texas; a grandson, David (Melissa) Johnson of Pendelton, Oregon; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Veletta Johnston of Waverly and Ladonna (Bob) Bergman of Frederika; two brothers, Adelbert Bravener of Greenwood, Wisconsin, and William Bravener of Tripoli; also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, three sisters: Lucille Bravener, Claire White and Valeria Schwartz; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law; a step-son, James Sonday; and a son-in-law, Joe Halloran.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Edwards Catholic Church with burial in Alcock Cemetery on Hwy 63 near Frederika. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street where there will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Monday.

Cleona was loved by all who knew her for her kind and generous heart. She will be missed by friends and especially her family. Memorials may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
