Gerald M. Crew, 83, of Waterloo died Tuesday Feb. 24, 2009 at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Independence, the son of Roy and Ida Sherrets Crew.

He married Juanita Lay Youngblut on June 8 1956 in Waterloo. Mr. Crew was employed with Rath Packing Company until its closing. He was veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army; he also served in the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife Juanita of Waterloo; a son Randy (Carol) of California; a daughter Jackie Crew of Waterloo; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother Lavern Crew of Jesup.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sons; Gary and Scott Crew; and a brother Lavon Crew.

There will be no services. Burial will take place in the Waterloo Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
