EVANSDALE — Ralph L. Huffman, 85, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo.

He was born Aug. 23, 1927, in Rossville, son of Francis and Gladys Henderson Huffman. He married Wilma A. Smith on Oct. 9, 1948, in Waterloo. She died June 23, 1984.

Mr. Huffman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked at Rath Packing Co. for 37 years as an electrician.

Survived by two sons, Gerald and Jeffrey, both of Waterloo; three daughters: Barbara Henkle of Evansdale, Deborah Hanson of Waterloo, Rebecca (Scott) Ahlhelm of Osage; two sisters, Joyce Rea and Helen (William) Mathis, both of Waukon; a stepson, Dennis Van Gorder of Independence; four stepdaughters, Rita Pillard of Waverly, Nancy (Richard) Michels of Bend, Ore., Betty Van Gorder of Minneapolis and Jeanette Miller of Bowie, Md.; a special friend, Frances Van Gorder of Evansdale; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by six brothers: Eugene, Keith, Cyril, Don, Milton and Ronald; and two grandchildren, Joshua Huffman and Jeremy Ahlhelm.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and the Iowa National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and for an hour before services Monday.
