Bobby R. "Bob" McMahan, 81, of La Porte City, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at his home. He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Matador, Texas, the son of Roscoe Naylor and Ollie Mae McAfee McMahan. He married Lanell Howe on June 26, 1961 in Reno, Nevada.

Bob was a people person. He worked as a Millwright for many years and retired in 1994 as the VP Estimator for Industrial Construction Company out of Michigan. He traveled all over the USA and the world with his work. He loved to stay busy with all kinds of projects, home repairs, gardening and his family.

Survived by his wife, Lanell of La Porte City; one daughter, Donna Steffen of La Porte City; three grandchildren, Cynthia Venables, Robert Venables and Jessica Jesse; five great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Madyson, Gavin, Kade and Drew; two nieces, Donna Brinkley of Kansas and Janna McMahan of Washington.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.C. and Mabre; one sister, Mary Joyce Boyd; one sister-in-law, Benny McMahan; a nephew, Michael McMahan and a son-in-law, Thomas Steffen.

Public Visitation will be held on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at La Porte City Funeral Service with a private family inurnment at a later date in the West View Cemetery in La Porte City.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

He will be greatly missed by all the people he touched with his great sense of humor and the love for his family.
