CEDAR FALLS - Robert William Hewlitt Jr., 42, of San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in Ontario, Calif.

He was born March 12, 1970, in Cedar Falls, son of Robert and Doris Wingerak Hewlitt. He married Margaret Thompson on April 21, 2001, in El Paso, Texas, and they later divorced.

Mr. Hewlitt attended St. Patrick School and Holmes Jr. High School, Cedar Falls, and was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and the University of Northern Iowa in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in computer science. He wrote software for many companies, including John Deere, Newcorp, Amx, Ocellaris and had been working with Gale Banks Power Engineering on racing engines in San Bernardino.

Survived by his parents of Cedar Falls; a brother, Reid (Sue) of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Rebecca (Sherman) Zieman of Postville and Rachel Hewlitt of Austin; two nephews, Zander and Zayden Zieman; a niece, Cicily Hewlitt; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada.

Preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Falls. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. vigil service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick School or the American Diabetes Association.
