CEDAR FALLS - Alyssa Marie "Sweets" Gallaher, 14, of Cedar Falls, died Oct. 14, 2012, of cancer.

She was born March 23, 1998, in Waterloo, daughter of Todd and Deanna Marie Ries Gallaher.

Alyssa attended St. Patrick School through the eighth grade. She was involved in softball, archery, basketball, track and swimming.

Survived by her mother of Cedar Falls; her father of Belmont, N.C.; two brothers, Mathew and Geoffrey Suckow, both of Ames; a sister, Hannah Gallaher of Cedar Falls; maternal grandparents, Ken and Delores Ries of Ames; paternal grandparents, Joan Gallaher of Clear Lake and Dave and Kathy Gallaher of Joice; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and her dog, Riley.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Alyssa loved writing, reading, woodworking, cooking, exploring forests, spending time with family and friends and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. She had ambitions to be a writer and had a poem published, "My Dog Riley," in the 2011 Acclaimed Poetry Collection. She was sweet, kind and courageous, and was loved by many.
