WATERLOO — Dean E. Salo, 78, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Iron River, Mich., son of John and Esmeralda Ask Salo. He married Margarie Riggs on Jan. 31, 1970, at First Lutheran Church, Waterloo. She died Jan. 16, 2011.

Mr. Salo served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the AMVETS.

Survived by a son, Jerry (Shannon) Rutter of Lakeville, Minn.; six daughters: Teresa (Kevin) Olson of Evansdale, Linda (Todd) Ambrose of Elk Run Heights, Pam (Rick) Pohlman of Louisville, Ky., Deanna Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susanna (Mark) Morin of Lake City, S.C., and Julie Eagle; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Norman of Brethren, Mich., Dennis of Hobart, Wis., and Alvin of Iron River.

Preceded in death by two sons, Rudolph and Randolph; a daughter, Karla Rutter; three grandchildren, Patrick Parker, and April and Ernest Pohlman; and a sister, Alrene Schram.

Memorial service with luncheon: noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Evansdale AMVETS. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Dean enjoyed woodworking and was very talented.
