WATERLOO — Joan M. Truex, 66, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center from a heart attack.

She was born July 6, 1946, in Earlville, daughter of Leo and Loretta Foxen Westemeier. She married Doug Truex on May 2, 1970, in Dubuque.

Mrs. Truex graduated from Guttenberg High School, Guttenberg, then received a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. She worked as an administrative secretary at Hawkeye Community College, retiring after 18 years.

Survived by her husband; a son, Douglas (Kayleen) of Iowa Falls; a daughter, Dawn (Jeremy) Fettkether of Waterloo; two grandchildren: Seth and Sydney Truex; and a brother, Daniel (Betty) Westemeier of Dubuque.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Judith Saeugling.

There will be no services at this time. Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is assisting the family.

Joan enjoyed cooking, gardening, bingo and had a great love for pets.
