WASHBURN — Donald “Doc” Miller, 80, of Washburn, died Monday, Oct. 15, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born April 21, 1932, in Elgin, son of Herbert and Iva Boelyn Miller. He married Ilene Bergmeier on Nov. 12, 1949, in Waterloo.

Mr. Miller was employed with Marquart Block Co. and Youngblut Construction Co., retiring in August 2004. After retirement, he was employed with Basic Materials Inc. and Mid Country Machinery. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Daniel (Dawn) of La Porte City and Donald (Brenda) of Statesboro, Ga.; two daughters, Dorleen (Todd Christiansen) Corley of Waterloo and Cynthia (Brian) Stroh of Washburn; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy McAlister of Waddell, Ariz.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Gordon; and two sisters, Betty Hockey and Bonny Land.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Bible Church, Washburn, with burial in Washburn Cemetery, with full military rites by American Legion Post 138, VFW Post 1623 and the Iowa Army Honor Guard. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Doc had a love for his family and friends and for music. He also loved cruising in his ’71 baby blue Thunderbird.
