Jeanette Mashek, 96, of Waterloo died Monday April 23, 2007 at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 26, 1911 in Iowa City, daughter of Clifford H. and Maude Stratton Huff.

She married Leo J. Mashek on June 7, 1938, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. He died April 16, 1966.

Mrs. Mashek graduated from Iowa City High School and attended the University of Iowa for three years until the depression forced her to end her studies and take a job at Blacks Department Store in Waterloo. After her rearing her children and the death of her husband Jeanette started work at Enzlers until retiring after 22 years.

Jeanette was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Past president of Chi Rho Club and a charter member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Survivors include 2 sons, Daniel (Linda) Mashek of Eldridge and Stephen (Mary) Mashek of Oro Valley, AZ; four grandchildren: Joseph Mashek of Oro Valley, AZ, PFC Monica (Tim) Wirickx US Army, Iraq, Elizabeth Mashek of Ankeny and Tom (Julie) Mashek of Fruitland IA; three great-grandchildren: Madison, Max, and Mallory Mashek; a brother Clifford (Marie) Huff of Cedar Rapids.

Preceded in death by her husband.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway where there will be a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church or Bosco System.
