Richard L. "Dick" Freet, 67, of Jesup, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home after a lengthy illness.

He was born Aug. 25, 1939, in rural Jesup, son of Albert "Sam" and Dorothy Phillips Freet. He married Barbara Johnson Dec. 1, 1972, in Evansdale.

Mr. Freet was employed at John Deere & Company for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the UAW Local 838, and the Rec Committee, and was a union steward.

He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and past Gilbertville City Councilman. In addition, he was co-founder and past president of the Midwestern Longhorn Association and a member of the International Longhorn Association. He enjoyed anything John Deere and was very proud of his 'blueblood' heritage. He loved learning new things about his family and was an advocate of his family's genealogy.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, two brothers and a very large family. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Missy and Emmie, and his 'granddog' Nellie.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and a brother, John, in infancy.
