WATERLOO — Martin C. “Marty” Ackerman, 73, of Antioch, Calif., formerly of Sacramento, Calif., and Waterloo, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.

He was born March 1, 1939, in Waterloo, son of John and Emma Averhoff Ackerman.

He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1957. Mr. Ackerman served in the U.S. Navy as a petty officer from 1961-1965. He graduated from college and retired as an optician from Kaiser Hospital.

Survived by a son, Gary (Linda); two grandsons, Steven (Kayla) and Christopher; two step-granddaughters, Katie (Eric) Prescott and Samantha Fennell (Mari Barron); a great-grandchild, Ryleigh Ackerman; a brother, John; two sisters, Louise (James) Bachman and Lucile Hrabousky; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Richard) Ackerman and Lois (Victor) Ackerman; and 14 nephews and nieces.

Preceded in death by three brothers: Richard, Donald and Victor; a sister, Helen Hennessy; a sister-in-law, Bea Ackerman; two brothers-in-law, Milton Hrabousky and Francis Hennessy; two nieces; and a nephew.
