Bernice Olson, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, died at ManorCare Health Services on Saturday, September 29, 2012.

Bernice Dorothy Hinnenkamp was born June 21, 1927, in Duluth, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Gertrude Hiltner Hinnenkamp.

She grew up in Duluth and married Delbert Richard Olson April 6, 1957 in Duluth. Delbert died March 10, 1999. She and Delbert moved to Iowa, first to Oelwein and then in 1958 to Waterloo when Delbert got a job with John Deere.

Bernice was very family-orientated and had a wonderful sense of humor. She collected may things including salt & pepper shakers, coins, stamps, John Deere toys, crystal, Native American collectables, and many more. One of her joys was watching and feeding “her” birds, even making cookies for them. Bernice was a member of Queen of Peace Parish.

She is survived by her daughter Romona (Kevin) Kirchoff of Waterloo; daughter Rhonda (Terry) Bromley of Waterloo; grandson Nicholas (Melissa) Kirchoff; grandson Travis (Jenifer Brandt) Kirchoff; granddaughter Nicole (Sam Becker) Kirchoff; granddaughter Kayla (Mason) Heavin; grandson Jonathan (Bailey Schindler) Steffen; granddaughter Laura (Zach Helm) Steffen; granddaughter Melissa Bromley; grandson Cody Bromley; granddaughter Megan Hinnenkamp; grandson Michael Hinnenkamp; grandson D.J. Hinnenkamp; great-grandchildren: Devin Kirchoff and Elias Heavin; brothers: Henry Hinnenkamp and Jerome Hinnenkamp, both of Duluth; sister Loretta Immerfall of Duluth; and stepsister Dorothy Marana of Wrenshall, Minnesota.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Mark Hinnenkamp on March 8, 2012; three sisters: Christine Carr, Martha White and Bertha Degrugiller; seven brothers: August, George, Leo, Raymond, Romeo, LeRoy and her twin brother Melvin.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Parish, 320 Mulberry St., Waterloo. Visitation 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home with a 4:00 Rosary and 7:00 Vigil Service. Burial at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo
