WATERLOO — James R. “Jim” Himes, 68, of Waterloo, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

He was born May 16, 1944, in Waterloo, son of Edmund and Clarice Nelson Himes. He married Mary Linn Jensen on March 5, 1967. They later divorced.

He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1962. Mr. Himes worked at Omega Cabinets for the last 20 years.

Survived by a son, Jason (Shelly) of Waterloo; a daughter, Sheri Linn Himes of Washburn; two stepsons, Robert (Karen) Walker of Waterloo and Joe (Karla) Walker of Evansdale; a stepdaughter, Tina (Dave) Schmit of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Cameron Walker, Hannah and Morgan Smith, Avery Schmit, and Tristan Walker; and a sister, Nancy (Larry) Boleyn of Waterloo.

Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and also for an hour before services Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to 823 Lynda Rd., Waterloo, IA 50701, for a fund established with George Wyth State Park.

Jim was a lifetime bowler, enjoyed golfing, fishing and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Family was important to Jim, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
