Herta Boyle, 70, of Waterloo passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born to David and Ottilie (Henke) Rauter in Donaten, Poland on December 18, 1941. In 1945, her family moved to Germany until 1952 when they emigrated to the United States, settling in Northeast Iowa.

She graduated from Decorah High School, and continued her education at the Professional Business Institute where she received an Associates Degree in Dental Assisting. Herta and Gary were married at St. John's Lutheran Church-Locust in Decorah on September 21, 1963, and were married for 48 years. She was employed with Maple Lanes for 27 years as senior league bowling coordinator prior to retiring.

Herta and Gary were long time members of Concordia Lutheran Church where Herta was an active choir member, superintendant of the Sunday School, and the children's choir director. They are currently members of Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.

Herta enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting, and cooking. She was a very welcoming host with a guaranteed hug upon arrival. She found much joy in music through the church, as well as the talents of her husband, children, and eventually grandchildren. Proud of her family heritage, she looked forward to the family reunion each year in August.

Herta also has a brother; Paul (Linda) Rauter of Osseo, WI and three sisters: Lilli (Alvin) Gross of Eldorado, IA, Ella (Gary) Olson of Waterloo, and Lydia (Gary) Clements of Mesa, AZ.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Frieda, and a brother, Gerhard.
