Margery A. Schemmel, 82, of Cedar Falls, died of natural causes Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Margery was born March 12, 1924 at Bristow, Iowa, the daughter of Jake & Hattie (Knevel) Wessels.

She was united in marriage to Donald R. Schemmel on August 14, 1951 in Blessing, Iowa by Donald’s brother, Fr. Joseph Schemmel. Margery was a switchboard operator at North West Bell Telephone Company in Dumont, Iowa, and worked at KXEL Radio in Waterloo for many years. She also was a government inspector at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo during WWII, and co-owned Waterloo Road Laundromat for over 35 years. Margery bowled for many years in several bowling tournaments.

Survivors include her husband, Donald, of Cedar Falls; one son, David (Kathern) Schemmel of Waterloo; one daughter, Deb Schemmel of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Travis and Angela Schemmel; and one great grandson, Austin. Margery was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lorraine Jones, and two brothers, Jakie Wessels and Don Wessels.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2007, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, with entombment at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery mausoleum in Waterloo. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service and a 7 p.m. Vigil Service. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to service time at the church on Monday.
Memorials may be directed to the church.
