WATERLOO -Charlene DeJaeger Mathews, 68, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Manson, daughter of Martin and Hazel Meiners Meyer. She married Clement DeJaeger on Dec. 9, 1949, in Nashua. He died April 19, 1974. She married Don Mathews in March 1984 in Waterloo. He died in April 1991.

Mrs. Mathews attended Iowa State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls. She was employed by the Waterloo Community School System at Kingsley and Kittrell elementary schools and West High School, retiring in 1995 after 28 years.

Survived by a daughter, Mary Nicholas of Waterloo; three grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon Meyer of Rogers, Ark., and Theodore Meyer of Marseilles, Ill.; and two sisters, Myrna Rieck of Jordan, Minn., and Connie Bellinghausen of St. Charles, Mo.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Jonathan and Michael Meyer.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m Friday at Chapel of Memories West Family Funeral Care, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Kittrell Elementary School library or Zion Lutheran Altar Guild.
