Francis Joseph Dargan was born September 21, 1920 at Jam​estown, Howard, Iowa (sometimes referred to as Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa as it was on the county line), to ​James Bernard Dargan a​nd Emma Florence Aurin​ger, the sixth of their eight children. His siblings were: James Daniel, Bernard Vincent, Florence Mary, Agnes Catherine, Mary Josephine, Paul Jerome and Rosemary.

Francis married Jane (Bow​en) Marks on September 28, 1951​ at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Chickasaw,​ IA.; the couple had 3 children.

Francis Dargan died March 14, 1​981 at Sartori Hospital, Cedar Falls, Black​ Hawk, Iowa and is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa.
